Men and women often disagree on household matters, whether it’s how to spend the weekly budget or what to watch on television. However, it seems, the battle of the sexes has moved outside and into the garden.
A British survey showed almost 78 per cent of couples have had many arguements over their differeing horticultural styles. Men like to keep their lawns straight and tidy, while women prefer far more informal spaces with winding paths and flowers planted at random.
The problem has become so bad that 54 per cent of couples admit to dividing the garden into “male” and “female” zones to avoid conflict. Some gardeners resort to extreme measures. One in ten said they’d tried to kill off their parteners’ plants by overpruning them or “accidently” letting the weed-killer drift too close. A further 10 per cent said they sneakily tried to pinch a bigger patch by moving the borders.
The survey said men like to control the lawn area and women are more bossy over the flower beds. Males also take care of the general DIY tasks and regard the garden shed as a “men’s only” area. In extreme cases couples have divided the whole yard with the husband taking care of the front and the wife controlling the back.
Couples who work for a boss don’t have the time to engage in these gender turf wars. If you would like to have your own piece of the garden to relax in you need to sack your boss and start up your own business at home and start living the good life!
